A recent survey demonstrates membership confidence in the PEA, our ability to negotiate satisfactory collective agreements, and our success in communicating with members.
Currently, 82% of members are satisfied with the PEA and the work that it does and an equal number are satisfied with their current collective agreement. While the majority of members (66%) are satisfied with the PEA’s approach to collective bargaining, one in three (33%) feels the PEA should be more aggressive with management.
A large majority (85%) agree the PEA does a good job of communicating with the membership. One third of members (34%) visit the PEA website most often to get information about the PEA while one quarter (26%) gets their information primarily from The Professional. Awareness of The Professional is very high as 98% of members are familiar with the publication, with 30% reporting they read the newsletter thoroughly and 60% glance through it. Only 5% of members do not read the newsletter at all.
While three quarters (73%) of members have visited the PEA website, only 2% have visited the PEA blog and Facebook pages. However, more younger members (35% of those aged 18-34) think that Facebook is a good way for the PEA to communicate with its members.
The Association Executive discussed the survey results at its May 1 (2009) meeting and will consider them for future planning to improve membership services, including communications. The random telephone survey of 400 members was conducted in March. More detailed survey results are available upon request.
