Committee mandated to foster good relations holds first meeting

March 11, 2010

Representatives of St. Margaret’s School (SMS) and the PEA held a Joint Standing Committee (JSC) meeting on February 23. The JSC is mandated to consider issues giving rise to concerns among members of the bargaining unit and matters relating to the maintenance of good relations between the PEA and SMS.

The focus of the first meeting was terms of reference for the JSC. Additional JSC meetings have been set for March, April, and May. Members of the JSC include Ross Alden, Diane Chartrand, and Labour Relations Officer Scott McCannell representing the PEA, with alternate Nan Lefebure; and David Burton, Linda McGregor, and Mary Soles representing SMS, with Cathy Mingo as alternate.

Members of the SMS Bargaining Committee have been working to prepare for upcoming negotiations. The committee members are Nan Lefebure, Anita Mavromichalis, Ross Alden, Sonny Wilson, and Labour Relations Officer Scott McCannell.
The committee distributed a bargaining bulletin in February to encourage all PEA members at SMS to complete the online bargaining survey before March 11. The committee will rely on the survey results in determining its key priorities for this round of bargaining.

Bargaining with SMS is anticipated to begin in late April, although dates have not yet been finalized. The collective agreement expires June 30, 2010.

The PEA welcome Scott McCannell as Labour Relations Officer

January 28, 2010

Scott McCannellScott comes to the PEA with a broad background in both labour relations and human resources. Scott says his passion for  labour relations started as a local union activist and elected representative with the Energy & Chemical Workers Union (now CEP) and continued while he completed his B.Comm degree. Scott has continued to expand his knowledge and experience working in labour relations capacities in forestry, IT, and government and feels strongly about contributing towards the establishment of fair and engaging workplaces. He feels the PEA is a progressive, strategic, member-focused organization, that it is an appealing choice for BC’s licensed professionals. Scott’s free time is spent with family and being active in the outdoors.

Scott takes care of the servicing duties for St. Margaret's School. He is the newest addition to the Victoria office.
