January 22, 2008 Applications Being Accepted for 2008 Scholarships and BursariesScholarshipsThe Association Executive awards up to ten scholarships of $1,000 each to PEA members and their families who are enrolling in a full-time post-secondary education program. Scholarships are awarded based on an essay competition adjudicated by the Scholarships Committee. Applicants must submit an essay of up to 1,500 words on the following topic: What strategies can membership based organizations, such as unions, use to increase membership participation and engagement? Scholarships will be awarded based on the worthiness of the essay considering content, analysis and literary style, as judged by the Scholarships Committee. BursariesThe Association Executive also awards up to ten bursaries of $500 each to PEA members who are registered or in the process of registering in a part-time program leading to a post-secondary degree or diploma. To be eligible, applicants must require financial assistance to pursue their educational goals. Should the number of applicants exceed the number of bursaries available, bursaries will be awarded to eligible applicants by lottery. Continuing education programs do not meet the eligibility criteria for the bursary program. How to applyThe scholarship and bursary programs have been established in recognition of the value that the Association and its members place on advanced education. Applicants for both scholarships and bursaries must comply with the guidelines established by Association Executive policy, which is available for viewing on the PEA website (www.pea.org). Members may also contact the Victoria office for a copy of the applicable policy. Both scholarship and bursary applications must be received in the Victoria office on or before March 15, 2008. Applications may also be submitted by email to crawford@pea.org. The names of successful applicants will be published in The Professional. |
