Your Chapter Executive - Our Goals

The new  HSP Chapter Executive welcomes you to contact them with questions, comment and suggestions by email (click on the links) or telephone.  Joanne Montgomery, Chairperson (250-492-4648), Amanda Bartlett, Vice-chairperson (250-862-5114) and Laura Kuypers, Secretary-Treasurer (250-490-0965) are all available as a resource to HSP Chapter members.

At its December meeting, the Chapter Executive set two goals: (i) to gain a greater understanding of HSP members' issues in health regions so that we may better address members' interests and (ii) to fostering greater involvement by HSP members in the PEA. To that end, the executive is seeking to have regional HSP Chapter meetings including chapter executive members and Barinder Rasode, PEA Labour Relations Officer.  Please contact a member of the Chapter Executive for more information.

HSP members are also encouraged to apply to attend the 2008 Education Conference to be held in Kelowna on April 11-12, 2008.  It's a great way to meet other members, learn more about the PEA and learn about the union's role in your work life.  More information is available on page 3 of the December 2007 edition of The Professional, from Chapter Executive members or from Barinder Rasode at the PEA Lower Mainland office.

In addition, The Professional includes HSP News as a regular feature in each edition.

IHA proposes rehabilitation redesign

Representatives of the Interior Health Authority (IHA) have initiated changes in the organization of the delivery system for rehabilitation services. The initiative has implications both for service delivery and for PEA members who provide community-based rehabilitation services.

Discussions have taken place between the IHA and the Health Sciences Professionals Bargaining Association. Labour Relations Officer Barinder Rasode has represented the PEA at those talks. The PEA seeks to ensure that career paths for PEA members remain open or are expanded and that there are no adverse classification impacts on members.

Meetings with members who may be affected are scheduled in October. Representatives of the IHA and the Health Sciences Professionals Bargaining Association will update members on the proposed Rehabilitation Redesign and its potential implications and take questions.

On October 16 meetings will be held at the Kelowna General Hospital PT Department at 9:30 a.m. and at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at 1 p.m. On October 17 meetings will take place in Oliver at 9:30 a.m. at South Okanagan General Hospital and at 1:00 p.m. at the Penticton Health Unit.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call your Labour Relations Officer Barinder Rasode.
