Chapter prepares for bargaining amidst funding cuts

May 31, 2010

With the collective agreement expiring at the end of June, the PGSD Bargaining Committee has been working hard to prepare its proposal package. A membership meeting is planned for early June to discuss the bargaining priorities reflected in the package.

While the chapter prepares for bargaining, the District has provided the PEA with notice under Section 54 of the B.C. Labour Relations Code. The School District had to deal with a budget deficit and chose to close schools to meet the budget targets. The Section 54 notice advised the PEA that a significant number of members may be affected by job cuts. The PEA will work with the employer to develop an adjustment plan to assist members affected by layoff.
