In April a member contacted the PEA to report the annual cost of their British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) membership was not being covered by their employer. The collective agreement between the PEA and the Okanagan Regional Library Board of Management clearly states that this cost will be paid by the Employer.
The PEA surveyed our Librarian members and discovered that the employer’s failure to reimburse the cost of the professional association membership is not an isolated occurrence.
The Employer maintains that BCLA annual membership cost coverage is not all inclusive and that it does not apply to employees working minimum hours for the organization. The PEA has filed a grievance on this matter and will be meeting with the employer on June 3 in an attempt to reach a mutually acceptable resolution.
Please contact Labour Relations Officer Rhiannon Bray if your annual BCLA membership fee has not been paid for by the employer.
