PEA and Law Society reach tentative agreement
December 2, 2009
On December 2, the PEA and the Law Society of BC reached a tentative agreement that provides the following:
- The term of the current collective agreement is extended for one year to December 31, 2010 (this preserves the existing no-layoff provision).
- General wages will be increased by 1.5% effective January 1, 2010.
- The wage scale for the Administrator job classification is adjusted effective January 1, 2010 to restore the historical relationship between Claims Counsel and Administrators. The maximum salary step for Administrators will be increased by $5,000.
- An agreement that the parties will engage in a process to evaluate the market to ensure reliable information is available to the parties respecting market comparability of salaries. That process provides for joint agreement on a) position profiles to ensure accurate comparisons with other organizations and b) the comparison employers/organizations which will be used in the market evaluation.
- Agreement on titles for the main articles of the collective agreement.
Your Bargaining Committee is recommending that members vote to ratify the tentative agreement. Detailed information including ratification materials and the date of an information meeting will be distributed to members as soon as possible.
