Parties work to gain momentum at bargaining table

May 31, 2010

The Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) has met with the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) four times since bargaining began on March 17. The HSPBA opening proposal set the tone for a positive and productive bargaining agenda.

Chief Negotiator Maureen Headley articulated that the following elements would be key to a successful collective agreement:

A lot of the discussion has centered on review of the classification system. The HSPBA believes that the principles for undertaking a review include developing a comprehensive classification system, rationalizing and revising the wage structure, and ensuring efficient implementation and administration of the system.

Both the HSPBA and HEABC agree that discussions have been slow thus far and would like to speed talks up over the next couple of months. Further bargaining dates have been scheduled for June.

In other news, the HSP Executive worked hard with the PEA to decide the best way to ensure fair and equitable payment of settlement monies to members affected by Bill 29. Payments to individual members were issued in mid-May. If there are any questions regarding how this payout was calculated please contact Labour Relations Officer Rhiannon Bray.
