Congratulations to Matthew Braun of Prince George, the winner of the June edition's contest!
Matthew correctly answered that Johnny Lyall was the snowboarder who jumped through the Olympic rings at the 2010 Vancouver Opening Ceremonies. Johnny also spoke at the PEA's Education Conference this May in Vancouver.

A mediator is continuing to assist the PEA and the employer to resolve the dispute over designation of positions in the Ministry of Forests and Range as field status vs. stationary status, which has resulted in discrepancies in the ability of members to claim meal allowances.
We have concluded the presentation of job functions, and thank all members who contributed their time and expertise. At this time, the employer is reviewing its position and will report back to the mediator, with further action dependent on discussion with the PEA.
In other chapter news, the GLP Executive has established a Local Representative Committee. The committee is chaired by Allan Chapman, and includes Steve Edwards, Harry Jennings, and Paul van Westendorp. The GLP Executive liaison is Rostam Yazdani. The committee is charged with reviewing the assignment, distribution and functions of local representatives and will provide a report for the consideration of the GLP Executive. The intent is to maximize the effectiveness of local representatives and improve service to the GLP membership.
Members of the Government Licensed Professionals Chapter have stepped into highly respected roles within their professions.
Curtis Nixon, RPF, of Nelson, and Mike Pelchat, RPF, of Quesnel, were elected by members of the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP) to the organization’s 63rd council.
Both Curtis and Mike have had extensive careers in forestry with the British Columbia Government. More than 1,100 ABCFP members voted in the election. Curtis and Mike, along with the rest of this year’s council, took office in February.
Additionally, Professional Engineers and PEA members Brian Chow, Sharlie Huffman, and Steven Kuan were honoured in 2009 as inductees into the Engineers Canada Fellowship, earning them the prestigious FEC title.
In 2007, Engineers Canada created the Fellowship to honour individuals who have given noteworthy service to the engineering profession.
