The PEA is pleased to announce the recipients of Giving Back 2010. Nearly 300 members cast their votes in our first e-ballot election for 14 potential recipient organizations.
The PEA Executive decided to give each of the top five candidates, as voted for by PEA members, a sum of $2,000.
The following organizations will receive the above amount:
Thank you to everyone who participated, either by nominating or voting in Giving Back 2010.
The Association Executive of the Professional Employees Association has approved changes to Policy 6.6, Grants & Donations. Currently, the Grants & Donations Committee makes recommendations to the Executive for funds distribution based on requests sent from various not-for-profit groups.
Since this is your union, the Association Executive felt that you should have a say in who should receive grants and donations from the PEA.
The amendments, found under Section B.3, say that members will have the opportunity to nominate individuals or organizations, other than labour organizations, to receive PEA grants and donations. The Grants & Donations Committee will review all nominations received from members and compile a short-list of nominated individuals and organizations.
This is your chance to tell the rest of the membership which organizations or individuals you think the PEA should support.
Members nominated individuals or organizations to receive a PEA grant or donation . Once the nomination deadline passed, the Grants & Donations Committee compiled a short-list of nominated candidates.
On April 1st, the short-list was released and e-ballots were available for members to vote among the candidates. Voting was open to all PEA members for the month of April, and the recipients were announced on the second day of the Education Conference in Vancouver in May.
Nominations were open from February 1st to March 15th.
All members had the opportunity to vote among the short-listed candidates. Voting opened on April 1st and remained open for the entire month of April.
Ballots were cast and tabulated through an online e-balloting system. PEA members used login credentials to vote.
The results were tabulated at the start of May, and the recipients of the PEA grants and donations were announced at the Education Conference and posted online.
